LASIK Technology

Wavefront LASIK Eye Surgery Technology

At the Beverly Hills LASIK Center we offer Wavefront LASIK, which represents the latest innovation in the field of laser vision correction. Wavefront laser vision correction using the Intralase laser to make the flap is so much more effective and safe than earlier procedures, that the United States Navy in November of 2006 approved this LASIK technique to be performed on Navy pilots. If the United Stated Navy, after careful study, has determined that this procedure is appropriate to perform on pilots landing fighter jets on an aircraft carrier, perhaps this may be the procedure of choice for your eyes. Our doctors have three Wavefront LASIK systems available: Custom Cornea, by Alcon, utilizing the LADARVision platform, the Allegretto laser with wavefront optimization, and CustomVue™, by VISX®, utilizing the VISX® laser. Wavefront LASIK is more precisely designed to enhance the quality of your vision. Our doctors will advise you about the best choice of our three FDA approved excimer lasers to help you to achieve the optimum results for your LASIK procedure. Contact the Beverly Hills LASIK Center today about Wavefront LASIK, and find out if you would be a good candidate for the procedure.

Custom Cornea LASIK Eye Surgery

Custom Cornea is the first FDA-approved LASIK eye surgery procedure designed specifically to simultaneously correct traditional (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) and non-traditional (nighttime halos and glare) vision problems.

The first phase of this revolutionary technology works by creating a customized profile, called a Wavefront map, of a patient's eye. A beam of light is shone into the patient's eye, where it evaluates the entire visual system and collects data about the eye's irregularities and visual ability. Next, the collected information is stored in the LADARWave® Wavefront laser system, so that it can be accessed during LASIK eye surgery. Patients from Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and anywhere else in the world can contact the Beverly Hills LASIK Center about Wavefront LASIK and the other laser vision correction technologies available at our practice today.

When the patient is ready for LASIK eye surgery, the eye is lined up precisely with the Wavefront map. The patient's information is then loaded in the LADARVision 4000 or 6000 excimer laser, a state-of-the-art excimer laser that uses advanced tracking technology (4,000 times/second) to deliver a small spot scanning treatment to quickly reshape the cornea to the desired new visual acuity. Since each eye has its own unique Wavefront map, Custom Cornea offers the chance to have truly customized LASIK eye surgery for our patients who have traveled to our Beverly Hills office from Santa Monica, Los Angeles, or anywhere else in the world.

CustomVue™ LASIK Eye Surgery

We use the VISX® WavePrint™ System at the Beverly Hills LASIK Center, a Wavefront LASIK eye surgery method that is both a diagnostic approach and a treatment that allows our doctors to take detailed measurement of a patient's eyes -- similar to a fingerprint -- so they can provide personalized and precise vision correction. In the system's diagnostic phase, a device called the WaveScan™ makes a WavePrint Map, which is a detailed map of a patient's vision. In the treatment phase, the doctor uses the information from the WavePrint Map to perform the vision correction.

Eye corrections of this size require the use of the VISX® 3D Active Trak™ laser, a laser specifically designed to track the minute movements of the eye during laser treatment. With this laser, our doctors are able to prevent any slight errors that might develop if a patient moves his or her eye during the surgery. The other advantage of the VISX® 3D Active Trak™ laser is that a patient no longer has to hold his or her eye perfectly still during the LASIK eye surgery procedure, which can often be a challenge for both the patient and the surgeon. Another unique feature of the VISX® laser technology is Variable Spot Scanning (VSS). VSS allows for a larger treatment area, offering greater flexibility in developing a more personalized laser vision procedure. The Beverly Hills LASIK Center can serve all Wavefront LASIK eye surgery needs for patients throughout Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and worldwide. Contact us today in Beverly Hills with your questions about Wavefront LASIK treatment to see if the procedure is right for you.

CustomVue™ refractive eye surgery integrates corneal mapping, the use of the FDA-approved VISX® laser, and technologically advanced computer equipment to allow a patient's vision to be corrected at a much more precise degree than traditional LASIK eye surgery. Instead of using the standard lens test, our surgeons perform corneal mapping. During this procedure, a tiny computer reads the eyes, evaluating what corrections are needed and to what degree. This computer, called WaveFront, then transmits this customized prescription to the VISX®, the FDA-approved laser used to perform all CustomVue™ refractive eye surgeries. The VISX® laser allows for vision correction to the nearest 1/100 of a power -- making it 25 times more effective than LASIK eye surgery performed on one of our Santa Monica or Los Angeles patients without CustomVue™ (or Custom Cornea).

According to recent FDA studies, 100 percent of 189 patients who underwent CustomVue™ Wavefront LASIK eye surgery reported post-operative 20/40 vision or better without contact lenses or glasses, 94 percent reported 20/20 vision, and 74 percent reported 20/16 vision or better. The overwhelming majority of those studied also reported that their night vision was much sharper and stronger after the LASIK eye surgery than ever before.

VISX® CustomVue™ individualized laser vision correction is also WaveScan™-driven, allowing our doctors to measure and correct unique imperfections in each patient's vision. Many of these imperfections could never be measured before using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses. Using WaveScan™-based digital technology, doctors can now identify, measure, and correct imperfections in an individual's eyes 25 times more precisely than with standard methods used for glasses and contact lenses. This information is transferred to the laser, providing a new level of precision and accuracy. To find out if you are a good candidate, please contact the Beverly Hills LASIK Center today about Wavefront LASIK eye surgery. We have successfully treated local patients from the Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Los Angeles area as well as patients who have traveled to us from all over the world in our state of the art facility.
